According to the head of Cuban diplomacy, U.S. sanctions negatively affect the country's economy, which is experiencing an acute shortage of food, fuel, medicine, and electricity.
Negotiations between Cuba and the U.S. show no progress. The behavior of the U.S. government delegations – generally respectful – is accompanied by constant threats against Cuba, the use of coercive measures, and offensive statements regarding the independence of our country
Cuba declares readiness for dialogue
At the same time, Rodriguez emphasized that Havana, despite differences, is ready to continue dialogue with Washington.
Despite this, Cuba remains open to dialogue and the peaceful resolution of differences based on mutual respect and non-interference in Cuba's internal affairs
Reuters notes that the U.S. State Department did not comment on the Cuban side's statements. At the same time, Washington traditionally justifies sanctions by the need to force the Cuban government to implement political changes, while Havana denies posing a threat to U.S. national security.
Furthermore, Rodriguez accused the U.S. of pressuring UN member states to postpone debates scheduled for July 7 regarding U.S. sanctions against Cuba. These debates traditionally precede the UN General Assembly vote calling for the lifting of the embargo, which is non-binding.
