The Canadian government will introduce a 25% tariff on American cars that do not meet USMCA requirements. Ottawa will also stimulate domestic production and attract investment in the automotive industry.

In response to trade duties imposed by the United States at the initiative of President Trump, Canada announced its own retaliatory customs measures. This is reported by AP, reports UNN.
Details
This refers to a 25% duty on American cars that do not meet the requirements of the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) concluded in 2019. Thus, Ottawa demonstrates its readiness to strongly defend the interests of the national economy, especially in the sensitive automotive sector.
In addition to tariffs, the Canadian government announced the creation of a special framework to stimulate domestic production and attract investment in the domestic automotive industry. This includes state support for enterprises that will contribute to the development of the national auto industry and reduce dependence on imports.
At the same time, Ottawa took into account the interests of individual regions. For residents of Campobello Island in the province of New Brunswick, who are closely connected to the mainland through the United States, exceptions to the new tariff rules will be introduced.
