According to the film's director, Shawn Levy, the production cycle of the movie included only "a day and a half" of reshoots. However, this filming began after the wife of Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, who also plays a cameo role in the film, gave Levy a note about the ending of the movie that "really opened up a new way of thinking about that part of the movie, and that's why we did that reshoot.
During the climax of the film, the fate of the main characters remains in doubt for a long time, although this was not always the case. According to Levy, the original ending was too straightforward in terms of their survival.
Levy explained to GamesRadar: "There used to be no suspense in the fact that the power room exploded and our heroes survived. And it was Blake Lively who told us: 'You know, I've been with you this whole movie. I want to sit in fear that they are lost. Let me be in that place of suspense so that the triumph of their survival is more emotional and intuitive.
Levy continued: "That was Blake's note, and it really opened up a new way of thinking about that part of the movie, and that's why we did that shoot... and the result is much more satisfying here.
