Azerbaijan has announced changes to the rules of temporary stay for Russian citizens on its territory. The decision was made in response to Russian restrictions on 90-day stay of foreigners during the year.

In the coming days, the Azerbaijani authorities will amend the rules for the temporary stay of Russian citizens in the country. This is stated in a statement by Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Ayhan Hajizade, UNN reports citing Russian media.

Details

Aihana Hajizadeh explains this decision by the fact that the Russian side has tightened the requirements for the period of stay in Russia for foreigners without a visa.

According to the Foreign Ministry representative, the new rules applied by Moscow are considered in the context of the rights of Azerbaijani citizens. Therefore, Baku will proceed from the principles of parity and reciprocity.

The Foreign Ministry has not yet specified what exactly will change in the rules.

Russian citizens can leave the territory of Azerbaijan without visas.

Addendum

On January 1, 2025, amendments will come into force in Russia, according to which the period of temporary stay of a foreigner who has arrived in the country in a manner that does not require a visa may not exceed 90 days in total within one calendar year.
