Today, on August 15, all lovers of the mysteries of history in Ukraine can join the celebration of Archaeologist's Day. Until the presidential decree in 2008, this event was unofficial for a long time, UNN writes .

According to one version, the Archaeologist's Day was celebrated on August 15 because the famous scientist Tetiana Passek, who led the Trypillia expedition in Ukraine in 1934-1947, was born on that day.

Archaeology as a discipline originated in Europe in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries due to the spread of the philosophy of humanism, which highly valued art. At that time, wealthy people began to assemble collections of ancient objects and works of art, primarily from the periods of Ancient Greece and Rome.

Archaeological science reached a new level in the late eighteenth century. During the invasion of Egypt, Napoleon Bonaparte brought almost 200 scientists to study the history and cultural heritage of this ancient country in more detail.

In 1822, Jean-François Champollion deciphered the text of the Rosetta Stone, revealing to the world the secret of Egyptian hieroglyphics. This discovery marked the beginning of a new complex science - Egyptology.

The rapid development of archaeology in the nineteenth century was facilitated by discoveries in biology and geology. The British geologist Charles Lyell created a new system of uniformitarian stratigraphy, which provided archaeologists with a reliable time scale for dating artifacts.

The key technological achievement for archaeologists was the emergence of radiocarbon analysis, the theory of which was presented in 1949 by the American scientist Willard Libby.

Thanks to radiocarbon analysis, it became possible for the first time to establish accurate dating for organic finds.

Today you can also celebrate the World Day of Greatness.

According to the founder of the event, Patrick Busing, its purpose is to discover and promote the greatness in ourselves and others. The day is also an opportunity to honor the people who have helped us make a positive difference in our lives.

According to the church calendar, today is the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the end of the earthly life of the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. It is also the end of the Dormition Fast.

It is believed that the Virgin Mary died in a dream, and three days later she resurrected and ascended to heaven.

The decision to celebrate this event was made at the Council of Ephesus in 431.

On this day, you should go to church and pray for family happiness and well-being, a strong marriage, and healthy children, because the Virgin Mary is the patron saint of mothers and pregnant women.

Maria, Oleksandr, and Vasyl celebrate their name days today.
