The first reports of Mr. Trump's condition came about half an hour after the shots were fired, when the former president fell to the ground with a wound to one ear. With the help of his bodyguards, he stood up and then defiantly raised his fist toward the crowd, blood streaming down his face. The campaign released a statement saying he was “feeling well” and “undergoing a check-up at a local medical facility.
“More details will follow later,” his spokesman said.
Only at 8:42 p.m. did Mr. Trump tell the audience that he had been hit by a bullet, not shrapnel. In a message posted on his social media platform, Truth, Mr. Trump wrote that he was “hit by a bullet that pierced the top” of his right ear.
Trump's campaign refuses to discuss his health, release his medical report or records, or provide access to the doctors who treated him, leaving the information to Trump, his friends and family.
