The Verkhovna Rada ratified the Rome Statute of the ICC with 281 votes. Foreign Minister Kuleba said that this brings Ukraine closer to EU membership and strengthens international justice.

Thanks to the ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, Ukraine is one step closer to membership in the European Union. This was stated by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on X, UNN reports .

The Minister noted that after the Verkhovna Rada ratified the Rome Statute, Ukraine became the 125th member of the International Criminal Court.

By taking this step, Ukraine is demonstrating its unwavering commitment to strengthening international justice

- Kuleba is sure. 

According to him, Ukraine is already effectively cooperating with the ICC to ensure comprehensive accountability for all crimes committed by Russia during the Russian aggression, and now this work will be even more effective.

With the ratification of the Rome Statute, Ukraine has also taken another important step towards EU membership

On Wednesday, August 21, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the ratification of the Rome Statute with 281 votes. Before the vote, MPs received letters of support from the General Staff and Budanov, although the discussion was tense with arguments for and against.
