In the United States, 32-year-old Alabama resident Kelsey Hatcher, who has a rare anomaly in the development of the reproductive
system, gave birth to two children one day apart.
The woman has a double uterus, so her
pregnancy could have been complicated. This was reported by The Guardian, according to UNN.
Details
The American woman gave birth to her first
girl, Roxy Layla, on December 19, and her second daughter, Rebel Laken, the next day.
The births were delivered at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham.
The children developed separately in
each womb. Hatcher was first diagnosed with uterine didelphysis at the age of 17. It is
is a rare uterine anomaly that occurs in only 0.3% of women.
I think it's fitting that
they would have two birthdays. They both had their own "homes". And now they both have
their own unique birth stories
Hatcher went into labor
at 39 weeks. She gave birth to her first girl vaginally, and her second through
via cesarean section. This was Hatcher's fourth pregnancy. She had previously given birth
children from only one uterus.
A few weeks after
Casey found out she was pregnant, she noticed bleeding and made an appointment for an
for an ultrasound, as women with double uteruses have a higher rate of
of miscarriages is higher.
During the visit, the doctors
discovered that an additional fetus was forming in Hatcher's left uterus.
Of course, there was another
child. We just couldn't believe it
Kelsey admitted that her
husband Caleb didn't believe she was pregnant with twins at first, given her
her particular personality.
