The AFU are breaking records on the B1 Centauro, while Taiwan prepares the Yunpao II D3 wheeled tank. The vehicle, with capabilities comparable to the Abrams, will enter mass production in 2027.

While the Ukrainian military demonstrates record results using Italian B1 Centauro wheeled tanks on the front lines, Taiwan is preparing for serial production of its own "tank hunter," the Yunpao II D3. This was reported by Defense Express with reference to the Taiwanese agency CNA, according to UNN.

Taiwan claims that the Yunpao II D3 has "destruction capabilities similar to the M1A2T Abrams." The vehicle features an updated hull with reduced height for lower visibility on the battlefield, and serial production is planned to begin in 2027. The wheeled tank is equipped with a 105mm gun capable of penetrating up to 500mm of armor at a distance of 2 km.

Defense Express notes that the concept of such vehicles is close to the application of the B1 Centauro in Ukraine—high mobility, rapid movement on roads, and fire support in urban combat. At the same time, Ukrainian experience has also shown the weaknesses of such equipment, primarily the limited level of protection compared to classic tanks.
Analysts also point out that Taiwan's claims regarding the Abrams level appear exaggerated, as the American tank has a more powerful 120mm gun and significantly higher armor penetration. Meanwhile, Defense Express suggests that the Taiwanese may have been referring to the modern fire control system, which allows for effective detection and engagement of targets.
