"The court announced a guilty verdict against a 50-year-old man whose Central Asian shepherd attacked a girl. He was found guilty of negligently causing the victim a moderately serious bodily injury (Article 128 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the prosecutor's office said.

By the verdict of the Desnianskyi District Court of Kyiv, the man was sentenced to 2 years in prison and placed on probation for 1 year.

The prosecutor proved in court that a man walking a Central Asian Shepherd dog, which is classified as a dangerous breed, in the courtyard of a high-rise building was obliged to muzzle it and keep it on a leash. Instead, the owner left the dog unattended while he went to the supermarket.

"Since the accused left the dog alone, it attacked the other dog when it saw it. The victim, defending her animal, covered it with her body. At that time, the shepherd dog bit into the girl's face, causing her moderate injuries. Passers-by saw this and rushed to pull the dog away from the girl," the prosecutor's office said.

The accused owner of the shepherd pleaded guilty in full and voluntarily compensates the girl for moral and material damage.
