Zaporizhzhia NPP suffered a complete blackout that threatened nuclear safety; a restored power line connected it to the Ukrainian grid

Another blackout occurred at Zaporizhzhya NPP overnight, posing a threat to nuclear and radiation safety. This morning, Ukrainian specialists have restored connection with the Ukrainian power grid, namely, the 750 kV power line has been restored. This was reported on Saturday by NNEGC Energoatom, UNN reports.

Last night there was a complete blackout at Zaporizhzhia NPP,

Energoatom reported in Telegram.

In the evening of December 1, a 330 kV power line "Zaporizhzhia TPP - Ferrosplavna" was reportedly broken, through which the plant was receiving power from the Ukrainian power grid. At 02:31 a.m., during an air raid, the last 750 kV line Zaporizhzhia NPP-Dniprovska was de-energized.

"Due to the complete blackout, ZNPP switched to powering its own needs from diesel generators. All 20 diesel generators were switched on automatically, 8 of which were later left in operation," the NNEGC said.

"The greatest threat to safety in this state is at power unit 4. It is caused by the fact that the occupiers used it in violation of the terms of the license to operate nuclear reactor units issued by the Ukrainian regulator and kept it hot. The de-energization of the main circulation pumps that cool the core leads to the transition of the reactor unit to the natural circulation mode. This mode is difficult for the reactor installation, its duration is limited by the design, and it can lead to the failure of the main equipment of the power unit. The unit needs to be urgently transferred to a cold state," Energoatom said.

Thanks to the efforts of Ukrainian specialists, on December 2 at 7 am, the connection with the Ukrainian power system was restored, namely, the 750 kV power line was restored,

Energoatom noted.

"Another blackout poses a threat to nuclear and radiation safety," the NNEGC noted.

As a reminder,

on November 16, a partial blackout occurred at Zaporizhzhia NPP due to the actions of racists.
