The Russian Foreign Minister said that freezing Russia's war in Ukraine would be futile and counterproductive, but Russia insists on a legally binding agreement.

In the war between Russia and Ukraine, the Kremlin is not satisfied with the ceasefire: according to Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, the Russian side needs "legally binding guarantees.

This was reported by moscowtimes, UNN.

Russia believes that a weak ceasefire to freeze the war in Ukraine would be futile and counterproductive. Russia would prefer to conclude a legally binding agreement on a lasting peace, which, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, would be ‘a guarantee of security for both Russia and its neighbours’.

The official also said he suspects that the weak ceasefire will be used by the West to rearm Ukraine. Lavrov also added:

A truce is a road to nowhere.

Among other things, a representative of the aggressor state's foreign ministry noted that "Russia does not set preconditions for negotiations on a settlement in Ukraine, it is a requirement to fulfill existing agreements.
