Ukraine and India's immediate goal is to bring trade back to previous level - Jaishankar

The Foreign Ministers of India and Ukraine agreed to restore bilateral cooperation to pre-war levels and explore new areas of engagement, recognizing the strategic perspective of their relations.

Indian Foreign Minister Subramanyam Jaishankar said that the immediate goal of Ukraine and India is to return trade to the previous level. In turn, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that relations with India have a strategic perspective, UNN reports.

"An open and wide-ranging conversation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba this afternoon. Our discussions focused on the ongoing conflict and its wider implications. Exchanged views on various initiatives in this context. We also talked about global and regional issues of interest to both of us. Reaffirmed our commitment to strengthening the overall relationship, including bilateral cooperation," Jaishankar wrote in X.

He noted that he was pleased to co-chair the review meeting of the intergovernmental commission with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

"Noted the importance of further strengthening cooperation in all spheres. Our immediate objective is to get trade back on track. The prospects for cooperation in trade, health, science and technology and agriculture presented today were useful," Jaishankar said.

According to Asian News International, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that relations with India have a strategic perspective.

"India and Ukraine have been traditional friends, but I think we can and must do much more, not only in the interest of our countries, but also in the interest of global development and security architecture. We will look forward to restoring what existed before the large-scale invasion of  rf in Ukraine began. We will look forward to discussing new directions and projects of our cooperation, because I believe that these relations have a strategic perspective," Kuleba said.

During the meeting, Jaishankar and Kuleba discussed the ongoing conflict and its broader implications. They also discussed global and regional issues of interest to both countries.
