Two French prefectures of Calvados and Gironde
have banned the harvesting
and sale of oysters from the Arcachon Bay located in the region due to massive
poisoning. This is reported by France Bleu, UNN reports.
Details
The oysters were confirmed to have acute
intestinal infection with norovirus.
It is noted
that the regional
regional committee for shellfish farming in Arcachon has expressed concern about the situation,
noting that norovirus is not naturally present in seawater. According to the Committee,
the contamination may be due to sewage and rainwater entering the
the natural environment.
The French were advised to return the oysters they had already bought
oysters back to the stores.
