Tropical Storm Cristobal formed near the Azores; a cyclone threatens Hawaii

On Wednesday, Tropical Storm Cristobal formed in the Atlantic west of the Azores and will dissipate on Thursday. In the Pacific, the potential cyclone One-C could strengthen into a storm and approach Hawaii by late Friday, threatening flooding.
Tropical Storm Cristobal formed Wednesday in the Atlantic Ocean west of the Azores, and forecasters said a Pacific storm system could threaten Hawaii this weekend, UNN reports, citing the AP.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami said that no watches or warnings were in effect for coastal areas, and the storm is expected to dissipate Thursday.
Cristobal was located approximately 1,416 kilometers west of the Azores, with maximum sustained winds of 72 km/h. It was moving eastward.
Meanwhile, in the Pacific, the National Hurricane Center began issuing advisories for Potential Tropical Cyclone One-C, which was located approximately 1,609 kilometers east-southeast of the Hawaiian Islands, with winds of 56 km/h.
The National Hurricane Center said the system was moving westward and was expected to strengthen into a tropical storm before approaching the Hawaiian Islands by late Friday. Forecasters said that by Thursday morning, a hurricane or tropical storm watch would likely need to be issued for the islands.
The system was forecast to bring 5 to 10 inches (13 to 25 centimeters) of rain to the island chain, and possibly as much as 20 inches (51 centimeters). This could lead to flooding and landslides, the National Weather Service (NHC) said.
