Only 9.5 million Ukrainians pay a single social contribution, while 11 million pensioners receive pensions, creating a critical situation that requires changes to make solidarity pensions more equitable.

Only 9.5 million Ukrainians pay the unified social contribution, while 11 million pensioners receive pensions. Therefore, changes to the current legislation have been drafted to make solidarity pensions fairer. This was stated by the Minister of Social Policy Oksana Zholnovych, within the framework of the High Level Conference on the European Social Charter in Vilnius, reports a correspondent of UNN.

Today, we have a critical situation with pensions, as 9.5 million people pay unified social taxes, while 11 million pensioners receive pensions. This is a very unfavorable ratio for strengthening protection in the PAYG pension system for our citizens,

- Zholnovych says.

According to her, amendments to the current legislation have already been drafted and are being finalized to make solidarity pensions more fair.

"We saw certain distortions in the way pensions are calculated today, for today's pensioners and those who received pensions long ago. Now, we will at least equalize the level of pension payments to make them fair," she adds.

Zholnovych emphasizes that this is only the first part of a larger reform that should unite all social spheres into a single social code.

"We have to launch a funded pension system to enable our citizens who are currently working to save their own money to be able to provide for their retirement in the future. In addition, such savings are a very good domestic investment resource that we need for recovery," says the Minister of Social Policy.

Recall

In Ukraine, the funded pension system is not yet ready for implementation, as clear legislation and stock market development are needed.
