The relevant committee has finalized the draft law on limiting the payment of pensions to working prosecutors

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Social Policy and Protection of Veterans' Rights at its meeting recommended that the Verkhovna Rada adopt as a basis a draft law on pension provision for prosecutors, which was revised by the committee. This was reported by the committee's press service, UNN reports.

On April 8, 2025, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Social Policy and Protection of Veterans' Rights held a regular meeting in video conference mode. The draft law on amendments to some laws of Ukraine on pension provision for prosecutors (reg. № 12278 revised), prepared for the second first reading, was recommended to the Verkhovna Rada to include the draft law in the agenda and, based on the results of consideration in the second first reading, to adopt the draft law as a basis.

The committee said that the bill aims to establish the conditions for pension provision for long service, disability, and loss of a breadwinner for prosecutors.

It is proposed to pay a pension for long service only after dismissal from the prosecutor's office. In addition, there is no provision for establishing separate preferential conditions for recalculating assigned pensions, for example, due to an increase in the salaries of current prosecutors. Annual indexation of pensions for prosecutors on a general basis is envisaged from March 1.

In March, the Verkhovna Rada failed to adopt the bill as a basis (223 votes in favor), so it was decided to send it for a second reading (229 votes).

Recall

The Ministry of Social Policy registered a new law, according to which disability pensions for all citizens, regardless of their status, should be equalized. Pensions for people who need support due to disability will be calculated according to the general rule, without taking into account the special statuses of individuals.
