Draft law No. 10311, which allowed the National Guard to use weapons against protesters, has been removed from the agenda. The Ministry of Internal Affairs was unable to refute criticism regarding the expansion of powers.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has removed from the agenda draft law No. 10311 on expanding the right of the National Guard to use firearms, special equipment and drones against protesters. This was reported by the head of the board of the "Center for Combating Corruption" (CCC) Vitaliy Shabunin, UNN informs.
Details
According to him, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) was unable to convincingly refute the CCC's criticism of the document.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs did not even try to refute our analysis. Everything that we argued convincingly as expanding the possibilities to counter protests, the Ministry of Internal Affairs called "regulating the rights of national guardsmen"
He emphasized that such "regulation" untied the hands to "shoot at protesters with firearms."
The Ministry of Internal Affairs never explained how countering mass protests helps in the fight against sabotage and reconnaissance groups. Because that is how they justify the need for this draft law
In turn, People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak noted that draft law No. 10311 is unfinished.
"I don't believe in conspiracy theories here. Frankly, everyone understood that it needed to be finalized. I don't think we will adopt it in this convocation. At least not in this version," the MP wrote.
Reminder
The Ministry of Internal Affairs, reacting to public outrage regarding draft law No. 10311, explained that changes to the law on the National Guard will not expand the powers of national guardsmen, but will regulate their activities. At the same time, national guardsmen could and can still use rubber batons, electroshock devices and means of forced stop of transport.
