Due to the heat and weather conditions, this year's cabbage harvest was disastrous. The situation is exacerbated by a shortage of labor due to the war and the global rise in fertilizer prices.

Due to difficult weather conditions this year, prices for cabbage in Ukraine will rise as the heat wave has prevented the crop from growing normally. High vegetable prices are also driven by other factors, including a shortage of labor due to the war and higher prices for fertilizers and plant protection products on the global market.

Now we see that there is a problem with cabbage. I think it will become even more expensive in the future. Just yesterday I spoke to one of my clients from the south of Ukraine, who grows cabbage, beets, carrots and onions. He says that this year the situation with carrots is not so bad, onions are good, but the situation with cabbage is just catastrophic

- said Andriy Marushchak, commercial director of an agricultural company.

According to him, cabbage simply could not grow properly because of the heat. He believes that the high prices for domestic vegetables will not last long, until overproduction begins. It is worth noting that the price increase was caused not only by weather conditions but also by a number of other factors.

“We have to realize that prices are golden not only because of weather conditions. First of all, we shouldn't forget that the country is at war - we don't have enough human resources to work in agriculture. Another factor is the global rise in the price of crop protection products and fertilizers. It was also caused by the war in Ukraine. But we will come to a situation where vegetables will be slightly cheaper or very cheap, and we need to think about what to do next today,” the expert added.

Denys Marchuk, Deputy Head of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council , said that the heat of the summer affected the harvest, so prices for vegetables are rising. The only thing that can stop further growth is the presence of imported products.
