This (Freyja - ed.) will also unquestionably be a priority in our immediate actions and decisions, meetings, and discussions
According to the head of Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry, the implementation of the antiballistic project is ongoing, and Ukraine seeks to accelerate the process, since protection against Russian ballistic missiles is critically necessary at present.
There is no doubt that this project will be implemented; the only question is the timing and speed of decision-making
Sybiha added that the implementation of Freyja is important not only for Ukraine but also for Europe, as it will protect European skies from ballistic threats.
The head of Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry also noted that Ukraine is working directly with all the countries involved and sees significant interest in the program.
For his part, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul noted that Berlin is interested in implementing joint projects with Ukraine in the defense industry.
I believe that Germany and Ukraine are currently the only countries that are genuinely implementing joint projects together. And we want to continue this
He recalled that Ukraine and Germany are jointly developing drone systems and protection against ballistic missiles. The effectiveness of the cooperation is demonstrated by the number of joint German-Ukrainian enterprises in the defense sector.
Wadephul emphasized that Germany is fully prepared to motivate even more companies to engage actively in Ukraine and cooperate with Ukrainian enterprises.
We are specifically discussing how economic conditions for German companies here in Ukraine can be improved. This is not a completely simple matter, but we are working intensively on it, and I am very optimistic about achieving good joint results
Additionally
The project to create the joint European Freyja antiballistic shield officially began on July 13, when Ukraine and nine other European countries signed the declaration of the Antiballistic Coalition. At that time, 12 defense companies joined it, including HENSOLDT, Thales, Diehl Defence, Saab, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, Weibel, Leonardo, MBDA, Eurosam, Safran, and Destinus.
Freyja is intended to intercept Russian ballistic missiles. The project is being built around the FP-7.x interceptor missile developed by the Ukrainian company Fire Point, while other system components are being supplied by European defense companies.
According to Fire Point co-founder and chief designer Denys Shtilerman, the involvement of European governments, particularly the German government, significantly accelerated the implementation of Freyja.
In particular, as reported by Fire Point CEO and CTO Iryna Terekh, Ukrainian FP-7.x ballistic-missile interceptors being developed במסגרת the Freyja antiballistic project are planned to begin being used on the battlefield in mid-2027. The Ukrainian company Fire Point expects to deliver the first domestically produced interceptor by the end of 2026,
