Russian security officials propose canceling the State Duma elections due to economic problems and attacks by Ukrainian drones. The discussion takes place only at the level of conversations; the president has no documents.

Russian security forces have proposed to Vladimir Putin to cancel the elections to the State Duma due to problems in the economy and raids by Ukrainian drones. This is reported by UNN with reference to Russian "media".
Details
According to a Russian official close to the administration of the Russian president, "talks about postponement, and in fact about cancellation in the near future" appeared as early as the spring of 2026.
He also stated the reasons for such a decision:
- problems with the Russian budget due to the war with
Ukraine;
- ongoing price increases;
- reduction of employees at enterprises and cuts in
salaries.
The insider also says that security forces acted similarly when they blocked the internet to limit Russians' access to independent media, and when they tightened migration legislation after the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall.
At the same time, the official noted that discussion of postponing the elections to the Duma is only taking place "at the level of conversations."
There are no documents on the president's desk, and perhaps there never will be
The main arguments used by security forces to lobby for cancellation are the deterioration of the economic situation and the decline in ratings of "United Russia."
Additionally
According to data from the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, the rating of the pro-government party of the Russian Federation "United Russia" decreased from 23% to 16% over six months. 22.3% of Russians stated that they would not vote for it under any circumstances.
Vladimir Putin has held the position of Russian president since 1999, with a break to work as prime minister in 2008-2012 (Dmitry Medvedev was president).
