Russia claims strike on Panorama in Sevastopol – Ukraine denies

Russia has accused Ukraine of attacking the Museum of the Defense of Sevastopol during the Crimean War of 1853-1856. At the same time, Ukraine denies the reports of Russian state "media" and propagandists, UNN reports.

Details

Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the aggressor country, accused the Defense Forces of Ukraine of a deliberate drone strike on the "Defense of Sevastopol 1854-1855" Panorama Museum.

According to her, the attack destroyed the original canvas "The Assault of June 6, 1855," painted by a group of Soviet artists in 1954.

The authentic fragments of the panorama painted by Franz Alekseyevich Roubaud, just as in 1942, miraculously survived, as they were being prepared for the "Roubaud.170" exhibition in a branch of the museum

 - Zakharova added.

The foreign ministry of the aggressor country called on international organizations to provide a "proper legal assessment of what happened."

Meanwhile, the Center for Strategic Communications denies the reports regarding the destruction of the canvas. According to Ukrainian media, Franz Roubaud's original panorama was destroyed back during World War II following a fire caused by a German strike on the museum building.

The current exhibition is not an original 19th-century work. Moreover, according to the museum itself, even it was not damaged. Russian propagandists are manipulating facts twice over: passing off a reconstruction as the original and claiming its destruction, even though the exhibit is located in a different building

- the report states.
