Robert Downey Jr. as the sinister Doctor Doom - how the concept was created
Kyiv • UNN
Robert Downey Jr., known as Iron Man, will play the antagonist Doctor Doom. This idea came to Kevin Feige even before the release of "Iron Man".
Last year, the Marvel universe fan base was struck by sensational news - actor Robert Downey Jr., who previously played the positive character Tony Stark, will now appear in the next film "Avengers: Judgment Day" as the main antagonist - Doctor Doom. Deadline reports how such an extraordinary and unexpected decision was made, writes UNN.
When Downey took the stage in a Doctor Doom costume at Comic-Con in San Diego last year, it was a shock to almost everyone in attendance. This was due to the fact that the actor had already saved the Marvel Universe by playing Tony Stark. But it seems that the concept of Downey as the antagonist Victor von Doom dates back to before the actor was chosen as the alter ego of Iron Man.
I remember you all already met Downey, like "Doctor Doom" or something else in another project. I think he probably got into "Fantastic Four" (2005), so everyone kind of knew who he was
Although this role has been known for a long time, Joe Russo, who is directing the next two "Avengers" films with his brother Anthony, recently revealed who came up with the brilliant idea to bring Downey back - not as Stark, but as the villain from the Fantastic Four. It was none other than Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige. "It was Kevin," the younger Russo recently told the online publication Omelete.
The negative character Victor von Doom was played in the 2005 film by Julian McMahon, star of "Nip/Tuck", and Downey debuted as Stark in the 2008 film "Iron Man". However, Feige stuck to the idea of choosing Downey for the role of Doom.
None of the directors wanted to disclose much information about the new concept, but later Joe Russo lifted the veil.
The only thing I will say about the film is that we love villains who think they are the heroes of their own stories. That's when they become three-dimensional and become more interesting. And when you have an actor like Robert Downey, you have to create a well-formed, three-dimensional character for the audience

The superhero film "Captain America: A Brave New World" took off in its opening weekend at the box office, but fell during its second weekend, UNN writes, citing AP.
The film remained in first place at the box office in its second weekend with ticket sales of $28.2 million, according to studio estimates on Sunday. But after debuting at $100 million in four days and $88 million in three days, that marked a sharp drop of 68%.
