On Wednesday morning, he was found by a delivery driver near the French city of Toulouse. The boy was then taken to the French police, and and his grandmother in Britain recognized him on a video call.
Betty is from Oldham, a small town near Manchester in the north of England. He went missing after traveling to Spain in 2017 for a family family vacation with his grandfather David Beattie and mother Melanie Beattie, who did not have parental custody of him.
Alex told the driver who picked him up that he had lived in Spain, and then in France in a "traveling spiritual community". But he decided to to leave, partly because he missed his family in Britain. He told the driver that he had been walking for four days.
The driver noticed that the boy had money, food, and water, and he also looked good physically, but said that he just wanted to live a normal life, see his grandmother again and have a normal future.
