Gerry Conway, the renowned comic book writer who helped create characters and stories for Marvel and DC, including the character The Punisher in Spider-Man comics, has died. He was 73, UNN reports, citing AP.

In a statement regarding his death on Monday, Marvel called Conway a legendary comic book writer with a prolific career. He died of pancreatic cancer on Sunday in Thousand Oaks, California, USA, his wife Laura Conway told the Associated Press.

"From Spider-Man to the Avengers, from Iron Man to Captain Marvel, Gerry Conway masterfully wrote almost every character in the Marvel Universe," said Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski. "Gerry Conway's legacy has had an undeniable and lasting impact on the superhero stories we know and love. He will be greatly missed."

Tributes also spread across social media.

"While many know of his achievements at Marvel... Gerry's contributions to DC were equally influential and significant: shaping Batman, Superman, Justice League of America, co-creating Firestorm, Jason Todd, and Power Girl, and many others," wrote Jim Lee, Chief Creative Officer and President of DC Comics, in an Instagram post. "Thank you, Gerry, for the imaginary worlds and the heroes you created."
