Kickback of UAH 3.4 million for not preventing restoration in Sumy region: new suspect identified

The former head of the Sumy region's Office of the State Security Service was served with a notice of suspicion of aiding an MP in taking a bribe. According to the investigation, the MP demanded 14% of the amount of the water supply system repair in Okhtyrka district.

One of the former regional heads of the Department of Strategic Investigations in Sumy region was served a notice of suspicion of aiding and abetting in obtaining an illegal benefit in a particularly large amount by an MP. This was reported by UNN with reference to SAPO.

“On December 20, 2024, the SAPO and the NABU served a notice of suspicion to a person who, at the time of the incriminated actions, held the position of acting deputy head of the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine, of aiding and abetting in a completed attempt to obtain an illegal benefit on a particularly large scale,” the statement said.
The actions of the person are qualified under Part 5 of Art. 27, Part 2 of Art. 15, Part 4 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
It is reported that the pre-trial investigation established that the MP demanded 14% of the funds allocated for the repair of the water supply system in the Okhtyrka district of Sumy region: 10% of which were intended for him personally and 4% for local law enforcement officers, who were not to interfere with the use of the allocated funds. According to the investigation, the amount involved is UAH 3.4 million.
In the course of further investigation, it turned out that from May to July 2024, the said MP was assisted by the acting Deputy Head of the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine, the former Head of the SID in Sumy region. Thus, the law enforcement officer had to ensure unimpeded transfer of funds from the contractor to the head of the village council with the involvement of subordinate law enforcement officers, whose involvement is currently being established. The funds were intended for the MP of Ukraine and law enforcement agencies.

The NABU and the SAPO served a notice of suspicion to Mykola Zadorozhnyi , a member of the Servant of the People faction . According to law enforcement, the MP demanded an undue benefit for not interfering with the repair of infrastructure in Sumy region.
Later, Mykola Zadorozhnyi was expelled from the party.
