The Russian government may allow the production of gasoline and diesel of the "Euro-2" standard until July 2027 due to the fuel crisis. An expert warned about risks for modern cars.

The Russian government may allow, for a year – until July 2027 – the production and circulation of gasoline and diesel fuel with reduced environmental standards, down to "Euro-2", writes UNN citing Meduza. According to the publication, such a decision is being prepared amid the fuel crisis in the country.

"Euro-2" was banned in Russia back in 2013.
Director of Communications at NEFT Research, Dmytro Prokofiev, explained that the main difference between fuels of different standards lies in the requirements for sulfur content and the complexity of production.
"Euro-2" allows the use of oil without deep processing and simplifies the production process. This will help release hundreds of thousands of tons of gasoline per month onto the market
The expert warned about risks for modern cars
At the same time, according to Dmytro Prokofiev, even such a step is unlikely to fully compensate for the volumes of fuel lost due to attacks on Russian oil refineries.
Furthermore, the expert emphasized that for a significant portion of modern cars, using fuel of the "Euro-2" standard could be dangerous.
