According to police, the deceased are four women and two men – all of them were employees of the facility. Several other people were injured. A three-month-old child and her mother, who were in the building during the shooting, were not harmed.
The Minister of the Interior of Lower Saxony, Daniela Behrens, stated that the crime was likely "committed for family reasons" and had no political or economic motives.

The suspect was detained
According to police, the suspect is a 45-year-old Turkish citizen, born in Germany and residing in Hanover. On the day of the attack, he had a meeting at the center with several deceased employees to discuss the custody of his young daughter.
The police chief of Lüneburg, Katrin Schouoll, reported that the man was known to law enforcement for threats, but was not considered particularly aggressive. He did not have a permit to possess firearms.
After the shooting, the suspect left the scene by car, but police later detained him along with two other people. Law enforcement stated that there is no longer a threat to the public. The investigation is ongoing.
