In Ukraine, it is proposed to fine parents for their children's participation in dangerous internet challenges. The relevant bill was registered in the Verkhovna Rada, reports UNN.

Details

The explanatory note to draft law No. 15396 states that the Cyber Police of Ukraine annually records hundreds of cases of minors being drawn into destructive online communities, which in most cases lead to severe injuries, poisonings, or suicide attempts.

According to sociological and psychological studies, over 85% of Ukrainian teenagers spend more than 4-5 hours daily on social networks. According to monitoring by law enforcement agencies and human rights organizations, about 25% of children have encountered pressure, calls to perform dangerous tasks, or bullying within online communities online

The main goal and objectives of the draft law are:

  • creation of an effective legal mechanism to protect children from dangerous internet challenges and destructive games in the educational process;
    • establishment of clear administrative liability for persons who promote, involve, or force students to participate in such trends;
      • increasing the responsibility of parents for the actions of minors, as well as heads of educational institutions for concealing dangerous internet trends.

        In addition, this draft law proposes to supplement the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses with a new Article 173³ (Promotion, involvement, or coercion to participate in destructive internet trends (games) in the educational environment).

        Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets appealed to the Ministry of Education and the National Police with a request to protect children from cyberbullying on social networks.
