Drug business under the cover of food: law enforcement officers detained drug dealers with goods worth UAH 23 million

Law enforcement officers detained members of a drug group that was engaged in smuggling cannabis worth more than UAH 23 million, hiding it in food products, the National Police reports .

Parcels in which the dealers allegedly received coffee, cookies, and groceries from America in the names of controlled persons. One box of food could contain from 3 to 5 kg of the drug. cannabis was sold through an extensive network of wholesale and retail drug shops in Telegram throughout Ukraine. Payment for such a" product " was made through electronic wallets, from which cash was then withdrawn.

According to information, in Kiev and Kremenchuk, law enforcement officers detained eight defendants — they have already been informed of suspicions and chosen preventive measures. They also seized drugs worth UAH 9,000,000 and cash in various currencies worth more than UAH 29.4 million. 

The organizer of drug smuggling and an extensive network of wholesale internet drug shops on the territory of Ukraine was a 28-year-old resident of Kiev. The man, while in the United States, established the supply of cannabis cones. Then the goods were hidden in parcels with food and sent through an international postal operator.

Already in Kiev, a member of the group picked up packages, handed them over to a courier who delivered them to the Office of the organizer's authorized representative. And he was already engaged in wholesale shipments.

In order to cover a large territory for conducting his drug business, the trustee attracted a friend from Kremenchuk. His group-his wife and three friends — was responsible for selling drugs in the territory of Poltava and neighboring regions. in the course of operational activities, law enforcement officers documented numerous facts of cannabis smuggling — a total of 57 kg worth more than UAH 23 million. 

According to the results of 45 searches in the territory of the Poltava and Kiev regions, more than 23 kg of cannabis worth UAH 9,000,000, cars, valuable watches, weapons and ammunition, telephones, draft records "economic documentation", as well as cash in various currencies totaling more than UAH 29.4 million were seized

Now the suspects are in custody, they face up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
