In mid-May, the government coalition will present a bill tightening migration rules. The Chamber of Deputies may begin discussing it as early as June. The changes will affect the procedure for granting temporary protection to refugees from Ukraine. This was stated by the Speaker of the lower house of parliament and leader of the SPD party, Tomio Okamura, following a meeting of the coalition council, reports UNN with reference to "Radio Prague."

According to the politician, these are comprehensive amendments prepared by several ministries simultaneously. The changes will affect both the procedure for granting temporary protection to refugees from Ukraine and the general conditions for the stay of other foreigners in the Czech Republic.

"We intend to tighten the conditions for obtaining temporary protection status, as well as the rules for long-term residence. In particular, this will concern the control of cars with Ukrainian license plates, technical inspections, and a number of other issues," Okamura told reporters.

On his Facebook page, the SPD leader wrote: "I am glad that an agreement has been reached in our government regarding the protection of borders against mass migration. We are introducing a zero-tolerance policy toward illegal immigrants, will reject the EU migration pact, and will pass a new law 'On Migration and Asylum'."

The new asylum law will be clear and fair: asylum will be granted only in exceptional, strictly defined cases. The priorities of migration policy will be labor market needs and national security interests.

We will not tolerate crime among foreigners. The powers of the police and migration services will be expanded, and residence rules will be tightened. We will ensure the swift and inevitable deportation of offenders from the country. The state is obliged to fully control who is on its territory and whether such a person complies with our laws."

As a reminder

In November, the Speaker of the lower house of the Czech Parliament, Tomio Okamura, ordered the removal of the Ukrainian flag installed in 2022. In response, the opposition hung new flags from the windows of parliamentary offices, calling Okamura's actions shameful.
