Two Chernivtsi customs officers are suspected of abuse of office for facilitating the illegal import of 168,000 e-cigarettes into Ukraine, which resulted in tax losses of UAH 42 million.

Two chief state inspectors of the Chernivtsi customs post, who facilitated the illegal import of 168,000 e-cigarettes worth 42 million hryvnias, have been served with a notice of suspicion, the National Police reported, UNN reports.

Law enforcement officers uncovered a fraud involving customs officers who let vehicles into Ukraine without proper customs clearance and entering information about the cargo into the information database.

As a result, 168,000 e-cigarettes entered Ukraine from Romania and were "lost" on the way to the border. By their actions, customs officers facilitated the illegal importation of excisable goods into Ukraine, which resulted in losses in the amount of UAH 42 million in non-payment of mandatory payments.

Two chief state inspectors of the Chernivtsi customs post were served a notice of suspicion on abuse of power or authority by a law enforcement officer.
