On Wednesday, the Brest Prosecutor's Office reported the detention of the captain of the "Tagor"—a Russian oil tanker intercepted on Sunday by French authorities. The vessel belongs to the Russian "shadow fleet," created to circumvent international sanctions, and was sailing under a false Cameroonian flag. It was subsequently escorted by the French Navy to Douarnenez Bay in the Finistère department, where the prosecutor's office launched an investigation,
It is noted that the captain, who holds Russian citizenship, faces a year in prison and a fine of 150,000 euros for the lack of a flag and refusal to comply at sea, as well as the confiscation of the vessel.
As a reminder
France and its allies intercepted a sanctioned oil tanker en route from the Russian Federation in the Atlantic Ocean last weekend.
The Kremlin called the detention by the French Navy of the tanker Tagor, which is under sanctions and linked to the Russian "shadow fleet," illegal and allegedly "bordering on piracy."
