Nikopol
Industrial city of Dnipropetrovsk region
Nikopol is a city in Ukraine, located on the right bank of the Kakhovka Reservoir in the southern part of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. It is the administrative center of the Nikopol Raion, covers an area of 50 km², and until 2022 had a population of about 105,000 people. On October 1, 2025, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded Nikopol the honorary title of "Hero City of Ukraine" for the courage, resilience, and selflessness of its residents in repelling Russian aggression.
The history of Nikopol dates back to ancient times, with traces of Neolithic settlements and the first mention of the Cossack crossing Mykytyn Rih in 1594. In 1782, the settlement was named Nikopol, meaning "city of victory," and subsequently became an important industrial and river port center of Ukraine.
