In the Lviv region, two more cases of tropical malaria have been laboratory confirmed. This was reported by the General Director of the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Natalia Ivanchenko, on her Facebook page, reports UNN.

The disease was detected in two women who recently returned from Tanzania, from the island of Zanzibar.

According to Ivanchenko, the diagnosis was confirmed by parasitologists at the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Medical care is being provided to the patients at the Lviv Regional Infectious Diseases Clinical Hospital.

According to her, the carriers of malaria pathogens are mosquitoes, and Tanzania is among the countries where this disease is common.

To avoid the disease, it is worth taking antimalarial drugs prescribed by a doctor before traveling. The vaccine is not yet available in Ukraine

- Ivanchenko emphasized.

At the same time, she noted that specific drugs exist for treating malaria, and medical workers are providing the necessary assistance to the patients.
