American media outlets, including Reuters, AP and CNN, have predicted Donald Trump's victory over Kamala Harris in the US presidential election. Details

"Donald Trump has enough electoral college votes to win the U.S. presidential election, Edison Research predicts", Reuters writes.

According to the AP Race Call, "Donald Trump has been elected the 47th President of the United States.

CNN's prediction is that "Trump will defeat Harris in a historic political return to office.

"Former President Donald Trump will defeat Vice President Kamala Harris in a historic political comeback, taking back the White House after losing the 2020 election," CNN predicts.

"Donald Trump has been elected president (...) Trump, 78, retook the White House on Wednesday, securing more than the 270 electoral college votes needed to win the presidency, Edison Research predicted, after a campaign of dark rhetoric that deepened the country's polarization," Reuters writes .

The former president's victory in the "swing" state of Wisconsin pushed him to this result, the newspaper points out.

"Donald Trump was elected the 47th president of the United States on Wednesday," AP notes .

Harris did not speak to supporters gathered at her alma mater, Howard University. Her campaign co-chairman Cedric Richmond addressed the crowd briefly after midnight, saying Harris would speak publicly later Wednesday. "We still have votes to count," he said.

Republicans gained a majority in the US Senate, but neither party had an advantage in the fight for control of the House of Representatives, where Republicans now have a slight majority.

Addendum

The 78-year-old Trump will also become the second former president in history to reclaim the White House after losing re-election during his tenure - the first was Grover Cleveland. Trump is now the same age as Biden, when Biden became the oldest president in US history to be inaugurated.

The former president's election came a few months after he survived two assassination attempts.
