Trump expects TikTok deal in US by Saturday deadline

An agreement with Chinese parent company TikTok ByteDance to sell the short-video app in the US, which is used by 170 million Americans, will be reached by the Saturday deadline, US President Donald Trump said on March 30, UNN reports with reference to Reuters.

Details

"We have a lot of potential buyers," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One late Sunday. "There is tremendous interest in Tiktok," adding, "I would like Tiktok to stay alive."

TikTok declined to comment.

Reuters reported on Friday that private equity firm Blackstone is considering making a small minority investment in TikTok's US operations, according to two people familiar with the situation.

Blackstone is discussing joining existing non-Chinese ByteDance shareholders led by Susquehanna International Group and General Atlantic to bring new capital to buy TikTok's US business. The group has become a favorite.

Addition

Trump set a January 5 deadline for TikTok to find a non-Chinese buyer or face a US ban for national security reasons, which will take effect this month under a 2024 law.

Trump previously said he was ready to extend the April deadline if no agreement was reached on the social media app.

The app is used by almost half of all Americans.
