Top U.S. and Chinese military officials talk for the first time in a year

Top US and Chinese military officials held their first virtual meeting in more than a year to discuss global security and the importance of dialogue to prevent conflict, after the US and China agreed to restore ties.
The Pentagon reported that the top military held a virtual meeting with his Chinese counterpart on Thursday. Regarding the Taiwan issue, which China considers internal affairs, Liu said that the Chinese armed forces will resolutely to protect state sovereignty and territorial integrity over it.
Liu also asked the United States to respect China's territorial sovereignty of China, as well as maritime rights and interests in the South China Sea.
