Tinder reported a sharp increase in the number of matches during the 2026 World Cup

During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Tinder user activity noticeably increased. The app reported that the number of matches in the US rose by nearly 60% compared to June 2025. This is reported by UNN citing Fast Company and Global Dating Insights.

Details

According to Tinder, the World Cup was a factor that significantly boosted activity in the dating app. The largest increase was recorded in cities hosting tournament matches.

Among international Tinder users in the 2026 World Cup host cities, activity increased by approximately 47%. In the US, compared to June last year, the number of users grew by more than 15%, the number of swipes by about 25%, and the number of matches by nearly 60%.

Tinder recorded individual spikes in activity during matches in various cities. In particular, in Monterrey, user activity increased by more than 80% during the Sweden vs. Tunisia game. In Guadalajara, during the match between the Republic of Korea and the Czech Republic, the figure rose by 74%, and in Boston, during the Iraq vs. Norway game, by 47%.

The company also noted an increase in the popularity of the Tinder Passport Mode feature, which allows users to change their location and meet people in other cities or countries even before traveling.

The most popular destinations for using this feature were New York/New Jersey, Los Angeles, and Miami. Among the countries from which a significant portion of international activity came, the UK, Brazil, Thailand, and Nigeria are mentioned.

Context

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is taking place in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Due to the massive influx of fans in host cities, not only tourist activity but also demand for dating services is growing.

Analysts attribute this to the fact that major sporting events create a temporary international environment where tourists and locals more actively seek new acquaintances.

Recall

Last year, Tinder launched a new double dating feature called Double Date. This allowed users to form groups of four to find partners.
