In Cologne, Germany, an unexploded World War II bomb was found during construction work in the Sulz district. Because of this, the city authorities announced an evacuation within a radius of 350 meters from the place of the unexpected discovery. This was reported by Deutsche Welle, according to UNN.
Details
The publication notes that about 3,000 residents of the Uni-Center, one of the largest residential complexes with a thousand apartments and the fifth tallest building in Cologne, had to temporarily leave their homes.
In October of this year, the Cologne demining team had already conducted a complex and dangerous operation to detonate a bomb that had been unearthed near several hospitals. At first, they tried to defuse the shell, but this attempt failed.
For Cologne, the fourth largest city in Germany by size and population, the situation with the discovery of World War II munitions is commonplace. Because of its industrial importance to the Nazis, the Allies had been regularly bombing the area since the summer of 1942.
Recall
In February 2023, a 250-kilogram bomb from the Second World War exploded in the port city of Great Yarmouth in the United Kingdom. It was discovered the day before and was planned to be defused elsewhere.
