Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, along with his Labor Party, has already presented key initiatives, betting on solving a problem that worries many citizens – the inaccessibility of housing.
At the start of the campaign in Perth, Albanese stressed that owning your own home should not be a luxury available only to the chosen ones. His government has proposed a large-scale support program for those who want to buy real estate for the first time. In particular, the state plans to partially guarantee mortgage loans, which will allow buyers to start with a deposit of only 5%.
In addition, if re-elected, the government promises to invest 10 billion Australian dollars in housing construction. These funds will be used for subsidies and preferential loans for the construction of up to 100,000 new homes. In a broader perspective, the Labor Party seeks to build 1.2 million residential properties by 2030 – all as part of an attempt to reduce pressure on the real estate market, which is causing increasing public discontent.
However, the opposition is not going to back down. The leader of the Liberal-National Coalition, Peter Dutton, presented his alternative: tax breaks for those who buy a new home for the first time. His plan provides for the possibility of taking into account mortgage payments when calculating income tax – another tool to reduce the financial burden on young families.
Dutton emphasized his many years of experience in the public sphere, starting with his work in the police and ending with ministerial posts.
Currently, sociological surveys record an actual equality in the level of support for the two leaders. Albanese, despite his history as a social housing native, is losing popularity due to the economic difficulties of recent years, while Dutton is gradually increasing his influence.
