The Taliban movement is deploying additional forces and strengthening security measures in the Afghan province of Badakhshan following the intensification of armed resistance. According to sources, the group is preparing a large-scale military operation in the region, reports Afghanistan International, UNN reports.

According to the publication's interlocutors, in recent days the Taliban has deployed additional units to the Zebak district and stationed them in several settlements. The province is also setting up new checkpoints, particularly in the Yaftal district, and strengthening security measures. Sources describe the situation in Badakhshan as "fragile."

The reason for the preparation of the operation was the increased activity of anti-government groups. Recently, the newly formed Sepah-e Mihan Front carried out a surprise attack in the Lower Yaftal district, briefly taking control of it and disarming Taliban fighters. After that, the Afghanistan Freedom Front attacked the movement's positions in the Zebak district.

According to sources, fearing new guerrilla attacks, the Taliban has also increased the number of night patrols.

Currently in Badakhshan are the Taliban-appointed governor of Helmand province, Amanuddin Mansour, and the movement's army chief of staff, Fasihuddin Fitrat.

Additional concern for the Taliban leadership was caused by the killing of the movement's director of information and culture in Badakhshan, Zabihullah Amiri, who died as a result of an attack by armed motorcyclists. According to sources, the inability to identify the perpetrators of this attack has increased tension among the group's commanders

At the same time, the publication's interlocutors note that the forces of the Afghanistan Freedom Front are taking positions in the mountainous areas of Badakhshan and have heavy weapons, which could significantly complicate the future Taliban operation. In recent weeks, the opposition group has also claimed to have captured several of the movement's positions in the Zebak district and destroyed two of its drones.
