Sumy declares mourning for victims of Russian air bomb attack

A Day of Mourning has been declared in Sumy following the Russian attack with guided aerial bombs on July 3. Four people were killed, including a woman and her 5-year-old daughter, and 33 people were injured.

According to data from the Prosecutor General's Office, on July 3, 2026, from 21:38 to 21:46, the enemy attacked the Sumy community with five guided aerial bombs. Civilian and critical infrastructure facilities came under attack.

As a result of the attack, four people died: men aged 64 and 56, a 33-year-old woman and her 5-year-old daughter.
The head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration Oleh Hryhorov confirmed that four civilians were killed by a Russian aerial bomb strike on one of the central streets of Sumy. In the morning, he reported that a man who was in critical condition after the KAB strike on Sumy died in the hospital. Doctors fought for his life, but could not save him.
Preliminarily, 33 people were injured, including seven children. Among the injured is the older sister of the deceased girl; she was hospitalized.
14 apartment buildings, a medical facility, two educational institutions, eight stores, a cafe, and five cars were damaged.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the commission of war crimes that caused the death of people (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Over the past day, reported in the Sumy Regional Military Administration, as a result of enemy strikes on the territory of Sumy region, 5 people were killed, including 1 child, and almost 60 were injured from enemy shelling during the day. Damage to civilian infrastructure, housing, and vehicles was also recorded.
