A technical malfunction of the official aircraft carrying Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez forced it to make an emergency landing in Turkey. The Spanish Prime Minister, accompanied by a delegation, was en route to Armenia to participate in the European Political Community summit.

The Airbus A310 aircraft took off from the Torrejón de Ardoz airbase in Madrid shortly before 4:00 p.m. local time, heading for Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, where a meeting of about fifty leaders of the forum's member countries will take place on Monday. Spanish government sources told the EFE agency that a technical malfunction forced the plane, following protocol, to land in Ankara, where the Spanish delegation was to spend the night before continuing their journey to Armenia on Monday morning.

Arrival at the summit in Yerevan is scheduled for 10:15 local time.

Sánchez will participate in the opening of the event, where he will officially greet the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, and take a photo with him. He will then participate in the first plenary session of the European Political Community and in the roundtable "Democratic Resilience and Hybrid Threats." About fifty leaders of the European Political Community are expected to attend this meeting, which brings together the 27 member states and most other non-EU European countries.

Following the conclusion of the eighth summit of this group of countries, Sánchez will return to Madrid on Monday.
