Since the beginning of the war, almost UAH 36 billion has been transferred from the NBU's special account for defense

Since the beginning of the war, the NBU has transferred over UAH 35.9 billion for defense needs from a special account. As of August 1, 2024, the account balance exceeded UAH 1.3 billion.

UAH 36 billion has been transferred from a special account opened by the National Bank of Ukraine for defense needs. This was reported by the press service of the regulator, UNN reports.

As of August 1, 2024, the balance of the special account opened by the National Bank of Ukraine on February 24, 2022 to support the defense forces exceeded UAH 1.3 billion.

Over the past month, more than UAH 183 million was transferred to this account. Since the beginning of the war, the total amount of contributions has reached over UAH 37 billion.

Contributions were made by Ukrainian individuals and businesses, as well as the international community, including countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Switzerland, Norway, Australia, France, Canada, Bulgaria, and Hong Kong.

Funds from foreign countries were received in various currencies (US dollars, euros, pounds, Canadian dollars, Chinese renminbi, yen, Swiss francs, zlotys, Australian dollars), with a total equivalent of almost UAH 16.2 billion.

Since the beginning of the war, the NBU has transferred more than UAH 35.9 billion from this account for defense needs, including more than UAH 185.8 million in July 2024:

over UAH 1,443 million for the needs of the National Guard of Ukraine;

UAH 1,650 million for the needs of the National Police of Ukraine;

for the needs of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine - more than UAH 22,973 million (04.07.2024 - UAH 43.1 million; 29.07.2024 - UAH 800 thousand);

over UAH 1,014 million for the needs of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (UAH 13.5 million as of July 04, 2024);

for the needs of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine - more than UAH 7,200 million (UAH 12.0 million on 15.07.2024; UAH 16.3 million on 31.07.2024);

over UAH 156.2 million for the needs of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine;

UAH 40.5 million for the needs of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine;

over UAH 233 million for the needs of the State Special Transport Service;

over UAH 548.2 million for the needs of the Security Service of Ukraine;

for the needs of military units - over UAH 652.9 million (UAH 100 million on 10.07.2024).

In the first half of this year, Ukrainians were more active in withdrawing money from banks than last year, the NBU reported, explaining that people wanted to build up a certain cash reserve for payments in the face of power outages.
