Boris Nadezhdin was convicted for displaying a photo of Navalny. The sentence makes his participation in the parliamentary elections in September impossible.

Russian politician Boris Nadezhdin, who opposed Russia's war in Ukraine and attempted to run in the 2024 presidential election, was convicted for displaying "extremist symbols." This was reported by the Associated Press, writes UNN.

The court found the 63-year-old Nadezhdin guilty due to a 2023 video in which he briefly showed a photograph of the late opposition figure Alexei Navalny. He was fined 1,000 rubles, and the verdict stripped him of the right to participate in the parliamentary elections in September.
Nadezhdin himself called the case absurd and stated that the authorities are seeking to prevent him from participating in the elections.
In January 2024, he collected the necessary signatures to participate in the presidential election, but the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation declared some of them invalid, after which the politician was not allowed to vote.
Last month, Nadezhdin announced his intention to run for the State Duma, but the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation designated him a "foreign agent." The Associated Press notes that the verdict is another step by the Russian authorities to suppress the opposition ahead of the parliamentary elections.
