Russia plans large-scale import of gasoline from India due to fuel crisis. The fuel deficit in the country reaches about 20% of domestic demand.

Russia's fuel crisis is deepening, prompting the Kremlin to prepare mechanisms for large-scale gasoline imports from India. This was reported by the Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security, according to UNN.

According to the Center, preparations for purchasing gasoline abroad are evidenced by amendments to Russian tax legislation, which provide for state subsidies to fuel importing companies.
It is noted that compensations are planned to be paid within the damping mechanism, which was previously used to curb fuel prices on the domestic market.
The cost of subsidies will be calculated based on gasoline prices in India and the costs of its transportation to Russia
The Center emphasized that the situation is indicative for a country that remains one of the world's largest oil exporters.
According to the agency, the shortage was caused by serious problems in the Russian oil refining industry following strikes on the fuel infrastructure of the Russian Federation.
It is telling that a country which is one of the world's largest oil exporters is forced to seek fuel abroad
They also pointed out that, according to estimates by international agencies, gasoline production in Russia has significantly decreased by 2026, and the fuel deficit already reaches about 20% of domestic demand.
At the same time, supplies from Belarus, which previously helped partially compensate for the shortage, are no longer sufficient to cover the needs of the Russian market.
