British actor and stand-up comedian Russell Brand, ex-husband of Katy Perry, has been accused of rape, indecent assault and sexual assault committed between 1999 and 2005.
This is reported by BBC, writes UNN.
The publication clarifies that the accusations relate to cases of violence suffered by four women. Police repeatedly questioned Brand following an investigation by the Sunday Times, Times and Channel 4 Dispatches in September 2023, which revealed numerous serious allegations against the actor.
Details
Earlier, the 49-year-old man denied the allegations, calling them "very, very offensive" and stating that his relationships with partners "were always consensual."
Now, the Metropolitan Police said that Brand was officially informed of charges of one rape, one indecent assault, one "oral rape" and two other cases of sexual assault.
Law enforcement officers stated that:
- in 1999, a woman was raped in the Bournemouth area; - in 2001, a woman was indecently assaulted in the Westminster area of London;
- in 2004, a woman was subjected to oral rape and sexual assault in the Westminster area of London;
- between 2004 and 2005, a woman was sexually assaulted in the Westminster area of London.
Brand was ordered to appear in Westminster Magistrates' Court on May 2, but is believed to be in the United States.

In such situations, when the suspect may be abroad, prosecutors try to agree on the return of the defendant. If the suspect does not cooperate, the authorities consider the issue of extradition.
