In a blackmail case, French football star Paul Pogba, his brother Mathias, and five other defendants were sentenced to prison. The sextet allegedly tried to extort 13 million euros from the 2018 World Cup champion in 2022. According to media reports, the case involves a conspiracy that included threats with weapons and an attempted kidnapping. Although Matthias was not involved in the most serious episode, his role as an accomplice and public threats on social media were decisive for his conviction.

The blackmail peaked on the night of March 19, 2022, when Pogba came to the house of one of his childhood friends, where heavily armed hooded men were also present and threatened him if he did not pay 13 million. The footballer made the payment, but it was blocked by the bank due to security measures. His brother Matthias was not involved in the kidnapping, but the court found him an accomplice in the blackmail attempt, Marca notes.
