Mircea Lucescu diagnosed with signs of strokes and pulmonary embolism

The Bucharest University Emergency Hospital has provided an update on the condition of Mircea Lucescu, the former coach of Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kyiv. Specifically, it is reported that the specialist has shown numerous signs of ischemic cerebral strokes and pulmonary embolism. This was reported by the GSP publication, citing representatives of the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital, according to UNN

Today, the patient underwent a comprehensive computed tomography scan. The doctors treating the patient thoroughly analyzed the situation and informed the family. The CT scan revealed numerous signs of ischemic cerebral strokes and pulmonary embolism. The patient will remain under strict supervision of a multidisciplinary team from SUUB

- the hospital's statement reads.

It should be noted that pulmonary embolism is a condition that occurs when a blood clot enters the pulmonary arteries and blocks blood flow. As a result, the lungs do not receive enough oxygen, which poses a direct threat to life.

Addition

On March 29, Mircea Lucescu was urgently hospitalized at the University Hospital after he fell ill during a technical meeting on the eve of the national team's training.

On April 2, the specialist resigned as head coach of the Romanian national team. On April 3, Lucescu suffered an acute myocardial infarction directly in the hospital. Doctors had to perform resuscitation procedures three times, and the coach had his fifth stent implanted. Later, Lucescu was put into a medically induced coma after severe cardiac arrhythmias that stopped responding to treatment.

On Monday, April 7, representatives of the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital admitted the possibility of installing a mechanical circulatory support system (ECMO) for Lucescu.

As Stefan Busnatu, chief cardiologist, doctor of medical sciences, working at the "Bagdasar Arseni" Clinical Emergency Hospital, told GSP, "the signs published by the clinic indicate that not only the coach's heart but also his brain are affected."

Unfortunately, these signs indicate that not only the heart, but also the brain and lungs are in an extremely weakened state. Due to the formation of blood clots in the bloodstream, both the brain and lungs have begun to suffer greatly. There are clots that have entered the head, causing a stroke, and have also entered the arteries leading to the lungs. At the moment, the damage to the body is multi-organ. Both the heart, the brain, and the lungs. This indicates that the condition at the moment is extremely serious. In this context, it is probably being evaluated, in fact, the best way to maintain vital functions to prevent a complete breakdown

- the cardiologist said.
